Chairs That Inspire

  • Class: Three-Dimensional Design
    Professor: Kevin O'Callaghan

Brief: Create a chair that represents your inspiration as an artist
More about this project: Something I believe strongly shapes my way of thinking and therefore designing is my background. I was born and raised in Portugal and left to come study in the US less than four years ago. Even though I’m away, I absolutely adore my home country and its culture. To be able to say I am Portuguese is something I am deeply proud of.
My chair is meant to represent the old ornamented windows on tile facades you’ll so commonly find all across Portugal.

The exhibition, "Chairs That Inspire", is on view from April 27th to May 19th between 57th and 79th streets along Madison Avenue. Mine stands in front of the Gagosian Gallery, between W76th and W77th streets.
