International Triennial of New Media Art: thingworld
Thingworld is a triennial New Media exhibitions hosted by the National Art Museum of China. The theme for the exhibition stems from the origin of the word “东西” or “thing” in Chinese which can be broken down into East “东” & West “西”. The concept is to display these “things” as objects that are representative of and the foundation of society and world cultures.
The visual identity for thing world focuses on having the typography appear as an object that is equally as important in its ability to stand alone as an image as it is a typographical layout. By using the geometric origins of the Chinese characters to mimic the spacial perspective of the exhibition an identity was created by placing an emphasis on line and shape as well as the meaning behind the text.
