Life is but a Dream
Childrens' classic meets horrible recount
A bifurcated, accordion-style book developed to explore a dark twist to the popular nursery rhyme “Row, Row, Row your Boat.” Augmenting the popular children song with an account of survival, I created two characters: the survivor and the river.
As the survivor recounts his brush with death, the river’s voice builds in intensity using the round style of singing. Just as the river’s voice begins to intrude and overwhelm the survivor, the story reaches the climax and recedes. Because of the accordion structure, the book can be enjoyed as one long spread resembling the length of the river.
